I hated having to pick up my phone to skip tracks. A $10 bluetooth remote has fixed that problem forever.

Everyone buy one of these

I have a unit that replaces the CD changer and lets me use the steering wheel buttons to skip tracks. It should work on yours because BMW used the same CAN-BUS system model- range-wide.

Yeah, this works fine for me though. Is your head unit still factory?

Yeah. It thinks the CD player is still plugged in and I use that input, but it’s a bluetooth stream from my phone. It even displays the track name on the radio screen.

Alright, I need that because where I keep my phone plugged in my car isn’t the most convenient spot.

You got a link to buy?

I bought mine on ebay with local shipping.

This will probably ship to the US. Or I’m sure  it’ll be on Amazon too.

I just replaced my E39's head unit with a Dynavin N6. Now it has full Bluetooth + aux-in + iPhone connection capability. I can take calls, skip tracks, and change the volume right from my steering wheel. It’s a bit pricey but it’s one of the best options for older BMW’s, especially for ones like mine that have the proprietary DSP sound system.

I bought one of these, for my radio from the 1980s (with an AUX port labeled ‘CD’). So I can keep the classic look while getting modern streaming capabilities, a handsfree function (including microphone) and a USB port for my phone. All for less than €10, shipping included...

Haven’t installed it yet.

I’m stubbornly sticking with the original Mk4 screen . That’s just me being weird though, I’ve heard very good things about the Dynavin units. My interior has been so well preserved until now and I love the feeling of having the top spec just as it would have been 15 years ago.

That and my friends flip out when I get them to do this for the first time. :D

I’m going to rebuild mine soon with a new LCD to get rid of the dead pixel clouds. And hopefully get the old analogue TV working again....

All that being said , the last owner did have the stock speakers replaced with a Bavarian Soundwerks set, which is quite nice.

Nah, just buy a factory momentary switch at a junkyard and connect it to the button on a headphone cable. Looks well integrated, no batteries to replace, and only one button for play/pause, next track, previous track and spoken song info on an iPod  (or accessing Siri on an iPhone, although this doesn’t do much if the mic portion is hidden). A few minutes of soldering and less than $2 invested. But if you don’t like mucking around with soldering and a little wiring behind the dash, these Bluetooth thingies are a great alternative.

Do you have any reliable leads on sourcing a screen to fix the dead pixels? My wife thought I had a touch screen when I first bought the car and now I am missing full lines

T his site is reliable, and the price seems competitive with what I’ve seen on ebay for an OEM Sharp part.

My only issue with it is 60USD for shipping to Australia. One of the joys of living out here :I

I have a DICE Mediabridge in my E46, it works like that - it doesn’t display the track name anymore, but it used to (?) - anyway, it works great, plugs into the CD changer input, and I can use my steering wheel controls to skip tracks, answer and end calls. It will display incoming caller numbers on the screen, which is... cool. But not names.

One thing that took me literally 2 years to figure out (probably should have read the manual) was how to *start* music, etc. playing without touching the phone. If you’re running errands or whatever, and shut the car off, the music/podcast wouldn’t automatically restart when I started the car back up. But if you wait for it to connect and then hit the track UP button, it starts playing whatever was going last. That was quite a discovery, haha.
